USeP Mabini launches Crop Research Lab

Mabini, Compostela Valley Province – The University of Southeastern Philippines has launched its crop science laboratory recently.

The laboratory is dedicated to the students and researchers in the field of agriculture who are actively working with Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources (AFNR) researches related to commodities such as banana, pummelo and papaya.

“The laboratory aims to “strengthen research projects on AFNR particularly those that are funded by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCARRD) to ensure  food security,”  Southern Mindanao Agriculture Resources Research and Development Consortium ( SMARRDEC) Director Dr. Lourdes C. Generalao said during the turnover ceremony held on July 2, 2010

USeP President Dr. Perfecto A. Alibin acknowledged those who support of PCARRD for the University in terms of research and development, more particularly its Executive Director Dr. Patricio S. Faylon. Alibin also recognized the efficiency and competence of the faculty-researchers who patiently work on the various projects to uplift the name of USeP in the field of AFNR research.

The turnover ceremony was graced by PCARRD Deputy Executive Director Dr. Danilo C. Cardenas and Director for Crops Research Division Dr. Jocelyn E. Eusebio, DOST XI represented by Mr. Eduardo P. Tesorero, USeP-Mabini Faculty, and SMARRDEC secretariat . The occasion was also graced by the presence of PCARRD expert representatives  like Dr. Feliciano Calora, Dr. Agustin Molina, and Dr. Jaime Sison.

With the 700-thousand peso-worth of repair and equipment of the new crop lab, Dr. Cardenas was optimistic that there would come alone new developments in researchers then more benefits for the clienteles. 

The College is indebted to the efforts made by Prof. Belly T. Dionio and Ms. Ma. Asuncion Salibay for having the proposal for the rehabilitation of the crop laboratory coordinated with SMARRDEC.
