University Dance Troupe (Pangkat Silayan Theatre Collective)

The University Dance Troupe is a Philippine folkloric dance troupe based in the Southeastern Mindanao region of the Philippines. According to its official website,

"Its repertoire consists of Philippine traditional dances and music showing a kaleidoscope of Philippine culture through the performing arts."

The company was founded in 1980 at the University of Southeastern Philippines in Davao City by Mr. Guillermo Dimaligalig. The group was initially called the University Dance Troupe. The troupe first performed in September 1980 at the celebration of its College Day. The success of the dance troupe brought in invitations for the group to perform in other parts of the regions and eventually, the rest of the country and the world. Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos designated the dance troupe as Official Cultural Ambassadors of the Philippines to the USA for 1981. In 1985, the group became an independent entity from the Holy Infant College and was reorganized. In 1990, the group received its present name upon the creation of the University Dance Troupe Cultural Foundation, which to this day still manages the activities of the dance troupe. The group has toured in various cities  in Asia, Europe, and in US.

Dr. Perfecto Alibin, the school president of the University, is credited for encouraging the formation of the dance troupe.
