The University Research thrusts are geared towards the upliftment of the quality of life and poverty alleviation in the Region. It envisions to undertake relevant and responsive research and development programs that would markedly contribute towards the productivity and sustainable development of Mindanao.

The Division was organized and staffed in 1983 and researches then were focused on Agricultural Development. In 1986, the University officially became a member of R and D network of PCARRD and in 1988, a member of SMARRDEC and now as host of the consortium.

From 2008 to 2012, USEP implemented more than 40 M project from PCARRD, and these are:

  • Impact assessment studies of SANREM Program and Cassava Technology transfer to the Philippines;
  • Supply chain of banana, durian and coco sugar;
  • Improving the yield and quality of pummelo;
  • Productivity improvement and GAP of Banana cultivars
  • Enhancing AFNR curriculum and graduates and
  • S&T Mgt Apporaches Against Fusarium Wilt on Cavendish in Mindanao

The University conducted Biodiversity and technology projects in collaboration with other Universities and colleges in the region with CHED as the funding agency, and these are:

  • Save Our Shores Project;
  • Invasive plants of mangrove ecosystem;
  • Adaptive Mechanism for Climate Change;
  • Biotechnology of Sago Palm and
  • GMP & HACCP of Vodka from Nypa fruticans.

USEP worked collaboratively with international research companies like ACIAR which funded projects on agricultural commodity like mango, papaya and banana. The Hydrobiology Environmental Company in Perth Australia worked with the faculty of CAS on the Limnology of Lake Buluan.

Faculty of different campuses and colleges contribute research outputs based on their expertise with funding from their respective colleges.
