USeP BSHM studes excel in durian culinary olympics

Students of the University of Southeastern Philippines Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (USeP BSHM) excelled in the different culinary competitions during the Durian Festival of Tagum City held in September.

The University’s hospitality management program is still on its third year. Despite being a neophyte, 22 of its students outshined their competitors who came from 16 schools in the Region. Three of the USeP students were hailed champion for cookery main dish, and 17 were recipients of award of excellence for the following categories: food basket in the barangay, durian plated dessert, durian celebration cake, durian extreme flair factor – cocktail and mocktail, durian pie, durian entremets, durian petit four, and fruit and vegetable carving.

It is not just now that the USeP BSHM students excel in culinary events. They also performed well in last year’s Mindanao Culinary and Durian Festivals.

President Perfecto Alibin of USeP believes that these achievements have proven the quality of the course and the competence of its faculty members.

The USeP BSHM program is designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge, skills and attitude in the management of the different facets of Hotels, Restaurants and Resorts. The program trains students for supervisory and managerial positions in the tourism industry. It is offered under the Evening Program of the University headed by Dr. Milagros Arquillano. Its faculty members, who also served as the coaches of the winning students, include Ms. Elisa Braganza, Ms. Sharon Binoya, Ms. Marilyn Hao, Ms. Xennie Tupas, and Ms. Estella Magandi. (USeP PIO)
