MiSpace Profile

LogoThe Mindanao eLearning Space (MiSpace) was established in September 2003, through the Basic Education Assistance for Mindanao (BEAM), the Department of Education (DepEd) and University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) Consortium. It is an initiative where school managers, University faculty and DepEd professionals could got to find content and a community to support them as they teach and learn using the World Wide Web. MiSpace aims to establish eLearning as an effective management- training tool through enhancing the delivery of USeP education courses and DepEd training programs for the senior managers and teachers. In support of the General Management Training of DepEd officials and staff from Region XI, Region XII and ARMM, MiSpace developed courses which the consortium identified for delivery by eLearning and developed as an on-line support environment and identified delivery systems to sustain the program.

In ensuring the quality of eLearning products developed by MiSpace, it has developed a Quality Management System (QMS) adopting the ADDIE model. Products underwent quality assurance processes such as peer reviews, user testing and experts reviews. At present, MiSpace developed 28 interactive CD-ROMs ranging from Learning Theories to School Financial Management and other specialized courses such as Multi-Grade Teaching, Special Education and e-Reading utilizing the QMS. Other products were developed in other fields such as Agriculture with International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and the Department of Science and Technology- Philippine Council for Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCARRD) for various agriculture Information and Communication Technology (ICT) materials. It had also embarked in the development Business Management modules. With the number of eLearning materials, MiSpace developed a Master of Education in Instructional Leadership (MEIL) under the University’s College of Education (CED) to add value to the training of teachers and school managers in the Region XI, XII and ARMM. The aggregate enrolment since 2008 reached more than 500 students for the DepEd and the private sector and almost a half were provided scholarship through the Local Governments Units (LGUs). MiSpace in partnership with the University’s College of Governance, Business and Economics (CGBE) also offered a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with specialization in Enterprise Development program to maximize the utilization of its eLearning products.

With the number of adopters of the new delivery system, MiSpace developed the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) to support lecturers and students in the programs. The VLE is an online classroom where students can interact with the teachers and fellow students and exchange ideas online.

MiSpace also trained lecturers to handle online programs of the University and had sent faculty abroad for training to enhance its capability and sustain the programs.
