USeP Conducts Orientation-Workshop on E-Resources

The University Learning Resource Center (ULRC) of the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) hosted an orientation-workshop on databases on January 20, 2015 at the ULRC Library.

The workshop is in line with the ULRC’s goal to offer quality services through the provision of in demand, updated, relevant and comprehensive level of library collection.

In order to maximize the use of ProQuest, E-brary, ACM, and IEEE, the URLC invited 70 participants to the orientation-workshop with the following objectives:

·      Know the electronic resources available in the library;

·      Learn how to access e-books, e-journals, online newspapers, theses and dissertations, and etc. using the general and remote access (access at home);

·      Be aware of the different systems in the library.

ProQuest Central plus E-brary covers 160 subject areas, 116,000 e-book titles, 19,000 e-journals, over 50,000 full text dissertations, and over 50,000 working papers. ACM (American Computing Machinery) on the other hand has 391,000 full text articles with 20,000 added each year, 2,000 proceedings, 5,805 video files, 594 audio files, newsletters, e-journals, and magazines. In addition, IEEE contains over three million technical documents.

USeP Prexy Attends Korea-ASEAN Conference 2014

USeP Celebrates 36th Founding Anniversary

The University of Southeastern Philippines will hold its 36th Foundation Anniversary on December 15. In line with this celebration, the University has set a five-day activity-based program that will start on December 14.

For 36 years, USeP has continued to pursue quality and higher excellence to better serve the community, and as the year ends, the University celebrates its milestone with the goal to take on the challenges and opportunities brought upon by the 2015 ASEAN Economic Community.

The foundation celebration, which bears the theme “Positioning USeP in the ASEAN Economic Community,” will start with the Alumni Homecoming at the USeP Social Hall on December 14. It will be hosted by the USeP Lab School Batch ’89 and College of Technology Alumni Batch ’99. Outstanding alumni will be recognized and awarded during the homecoming. Among the awardees are Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Z. Duterte; 2014 Ramon Magsaysay awardee Randy H. Halasan; Caraga State University President Anthony M. Penaso; and Davao City Police Director Sr. Supt. Vicente D. Danao, Jr.

The grand opening program of the weeklong celebration will happen on December 15, 8:30 A.M. at the USeP Gymnasium and Cultural Center. It will be graced by Congressman Karlo Alexei B. Nograles of the First District, Davao City as keynote speaker.

USeP co-hosts World Bank Group’s CPS Dialogue

In line with World Bank’s twin goals of eradicating extreme poverty and promoting shared prosperity, the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) and World Bank Group (WBG) co-hosted the Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) Dialogue for FY 2015 – 2018 at The Ritz Hotel on November 28, 2014.

The CPS revolved around the theme: “making growth work for the poor.” With the aim to provide households or communities at risk for poverty with better income opportunities and less vulnerability to sudden economic difficulties and natural disasters, The World Bank strives to continuously develop plans and strategies to make growth work for the poor.

The objectives of the CPS Dialogue are to create awareness among partners and the general public of the new CPS, discuss possible partnerships or pursue complementary or parallel efforts, promote informed debate and discussion around critical development choices and trade-offs, and to contribute to the effective implementation of the CPS.

Participants came from the different stakeholders groups including the NEDA, TESDA, LGU, NGO, NCIP, business groups, civil society groups, academe, and various government agencies who wanted to go for an extra mile in pursuing one very important goal – to ensure that no one is left behind, especially the poor.
